Report: Cardinals, Jacoby Brissett ‘significantly apart’ in contract talks

The Arizona Cardinals and quarterback Jacoby Brissett are “significantly apart” in contract negotiations, according to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss.
The news of the two sides remaining far apart in a prospective deal comes after Brissett was among the notable absentees from Round 1 of organized team activities last week. It was the latest voluntary work Brissett has opted against attending as he requests a raise that pays him as the starter.
Weinfuss adds Brissett has been informed by the team that he’s the starter.
Brissett enters the year carrying a base salary of $4.88 million but is only guaranteed $1.5 million, according to OverTheCap.
Gardner Minshew II, who was originally brought in to back up Brissett this offseason, has a lower base salary ($2.9 million) but it’s all guaranteed.
With Brissett not around, Minshew has gotten more time on task with Arizona’s playmakers this offseason.
The same goes for rookie Carson Beck after landing with the Cardinals in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Beck will likely be given the keys to the offense at some point this season, which could be a potential hangup in contract negotiations between the franchise and signal caller.
Brissett is coming off 12 starts for the Cardinals last season after taking over for former franchise quarterback Kyler Murray in Week 6.
The veteran journeyman completed 64.9% of his throws for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns to eight interceptions. The stats were there, the wins were not, with Brissett going 1-11 as a starter.
It wasn’t all on him, though, as a struggling offensive line and run game impacted the offense on top of a defense getting gashed more times than not to end the year.

I disagree. I think it’s a stretch. Pay the man a starting salary. Give him a solid OL. Work Beck into the role.
Send him on his way! I rather go 1-16 with Beck than Brissett. That is reality.....beck can learn the game from MInshew. Not paying a career back up low to mid tier starters salary.
1&11, for a back-up, cut him & start the other back-up or the rookie!
