Former Cardinals safety Jalen Thompson signing with Cowboys, per report

Former Arizona Cardinals safety Jalen Thompson is signing with the Dallas Cowboys, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The deal spans three years and is worth up to $36 million.

The safety was a key part to Arizona’s defense alongside Budda Baker since joining the franchise as a supplemental draft pick in 2019.

In 99 games played (87 starts) for the franchise, Thompson recorded nine interceptions, 578 tackles, 37 passes defensed and nine QB hits.

With Thompson headed elsewhere, the Cardinals will likely turn to some of their younger players in the safeties room.

That includes Dadrion “Rabbit” Taylor-Demerson and Kitan “Bug” Crawford.

Taylor-Demerson saw more playing time last year after moving his way up the depth chart as a rookie the season prior.

Crawford was mainly used as a special teamer but saw some action defensively late in his rookie season.

The Cardinals could also look to free agency for added depth.
