LaFleur: Too early to tell if James Conner will be ready for Week 1

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner avoided the PUP list to start training camp but has yet to take part in any team drills.

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner is progressing well from his foot injury in 2025.

He avoided the physically unable to perform list and got plenty of individual work in throughout training camp.

Conner hasn’t been fully unleashed at practice, however, as the running back remains on the shelf for team drills as part of “his return to performance.”

But with just one more preseason game to go and the regular season on the horizon, will Conner be ready by Week 1?

“That’s too early for me to tell right now,” Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters ahead of Arizona’s joint practice with Green Bay. “I know it is starting to creep up, but it’s a little too early for me to answer.”

“Like I’ve said a few times, we’re going to lean on him and how he feels,” the head coach added. “That was a gruesome injury, but he’s progressing well and we’ll take it one day at a time with him.

With Conner’s Week 1 availability far from certain, Arizona will likely lean on Jeremiyah Love (if healthy), Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight in the backfield.

Cardinals’ Isaiah Adams day to day with knee injury

Adding to the injury updates on Wednesday was offensive lineman Isaiah Adams’ knee issue. The starting right guard is considered day to day and will miss joint practice work.

Adams was present during the open portion of Thursday’s practice but was absent on Monday.

Arizona’s right guard situation continues to be impacted by injury this training camp and preseason.

Before Adams’ knee injury, the Cardinals lost rookie Chase Bisontis to a torn MCL. The second-rounder was in a battle for the starting right guard spot.

Jon Gaines II represents next man up in Adams’ absence.

Isaac Seumalo all good

Adams wasn’t the only starting interior lineman to miss Monday’s practice, with veteran Isaac Seumalo a surprise nonparticipant.

LaFleur cleared up the mystery on Wednesday. Seumalo was dealing with an illness but is back in the mix for this week’s joint practice.

“Too early to tell “?

Let me cue the head coach in on the status of rb James Connor!!!

He is NOT ready AND he will not be ready for the first game of the season in San Diego. Most likely, he will go on the PUP list and miss the first 4 games of the season.

I mean, if after all this time and being this close to the start of the regular season, he’s not ready. Then in 3 weeks he won’t be ready either. I hope I’m wrong but I doubt it.
