Cardinals place OT Paris Johnson Jr. on injured reserve, add 3 players from practice squad

The Arizona Cardinals placed offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. (knee) on injured reserve on Saturday, ending his season with two games to go.

Johnson, who missed the last two games after suffering the injury on Dec. 7 when facing the Los Angeles Rams, had already been ruled out for Sunday’s game at the Cincinnati Bengals. The move also rules him out of the regular-season finale on Jan. 4 at the Rams.

He graded out as a top-20 tackle among 83 players who qualified, per PFF. That includes a pass-blocking grade that ranked 15th.

The sixth overall pick in 2023 out of Ohio State, he gave up five sacks across 807 snaps.

Josh Fryar (70 snaps) and Demontrey Jacobs (53) have manned the left tackle spots in the last two games, with Fryar grading out better than Jacobs.

Additional Cardinals roster moves

Arizona also signed defensive lineman Zach Carter to the active roster from its practice squad, with two separate practice squad elevations: cornerback Jaden Davis and wide receiver Steven Sims.

A third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Carter has appeared in 47 career games (16 starts), including two with the Cardinals. He has 73 career tackles with two tackles for loss, two sacks and five QB hits. He has two tackles for Arizona.

Davis has appeared in one game, logging two tackles for Arizona on Sunday in the loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Sims also played on Sunday, unable to haul in the lone target he saw. He has 53 previous games of experience since 2019 with 78 catches for 704 yards and five touchdowns.
