Cardinals add Valley native Isaiah Oliver at DB

The Arizona Cardinals signed veteran defensive back Isaiah Oliver and released backup kicker Joshua Karty on Thursday.

Oliver appeared in 14 games for the New York Jets last season and tallied 55 tackles and three passes defensed.

He is an Arizona native who attended Brophy College Preparatory before joining the Colorado Buffaloes for college.

Oliver was a second-round pick (58th overall) in 2018 and has played for the Atlanta Falcons (2018-22), San Francisco 49ers (2023) and Jets (2024-25).

Oliver’s career began at cornerback, but he moved into a nickel role for the 2020 season. In subsequent seasons, he has spent more and more time inside, being used in a more versatile way.

Last season for the Jets, he lined up in the box 144 times, at free safety 78 times and in the slot 67 times, according to Pro Football Focus.

The safety room for Arizona includes Budda Baker and third-year pro Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. The Cardinals signed free agent Andrew Wingard in the offseason and also have second-year pro Kitan Crawford back.

Arizona this season will replace Jalen Thompson, who left in free agency and played 85% of the available snaps on defense last year, second to Baker.

The release of Karty leaves last year’s starting, Chad Ryland, as the only kicker on the roster.
