With Phoenix Raceway hosting NASCAR Championship Weekend and the Cardinals hosting a mid-afternoon game, heavy traffic is expected in the West Valley on Sunday.

The Cardinals game against the New York Jets kicks off at 2:25 p.m. at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, while the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race is at 1 p.m. at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale.

Drivers in the area should expect heavy traffic on Interstate 10 in the morning and after the game due to the race.

Commuters headed to State Farm Stadium are encouraged to avoid the I-10 freeway and use alternate routes instead, such as Loop 101 North to Interstate 17 South or State Route 51.

Phoenix Raceway parking lots open at 6 a.m. while spectator gates open at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

State Farm Stadium parking lots will open at 10:15 a.m. and the stadium’s main gates will open at 12:45 p.m.
