Fresh off agreeing to a four-year contract extension with the Arizona Cardinals, tight end Trey McBride says quarterback Kyler Murray has shown a lot of growth since they both became teammates in 2022.

McBride explained to Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo how impressed he has been with Murray and how much he has stepped up as a leader of the team.

“I’ve seen him change tremendously. He’s done a full 180,” McBride said. “I love everything that he’s doing right now. He’s been a great leader. He’s doing everything the right way, taking guys out and hanging out with guys outside of practice.

“Most importantly, he’s leading the team and doing everything the right way and I’m just excited to see him grow and see him lead this franchise the right way.”

McBride was Murray’s top target on offense in 2024 as the Pro Bowl tight end caught a franchise record 111 catches for 1,146 yards and two touchdowns.

McBride was optimistic about Murray and what the Cardinals offense can do in 2025.

“We have so much talent on offense and he’s the leader of that so I’m excited to continue to play with Kyler,” McBride said. “He’s a tremendous guy and I think the sky is the limit with what we can do on offense.”

McBride also explained the bond he has with Murray and what they said to each other following the extension.

“It’s just great to know I have the support of my quarterback and to know that he cares and really wants the best for me as well,” McBride said.

“He was one of the first people I talked to (following the extension) and we got to Facetime each other and just to rejoice, celebrate together and to review all the goals we have and to remind each other that this is the first step we want to go,” he continued. “But we have so much more to accomplish together. I’m excited to do this thing with Kyler. He’s a great player and I think we have a bright future the next few years.”

Let's see the change on the gridiron. There MUST BE the 2025 dual achievements of making the Playoffs and winning at least one game. Failure is not an option. It's Kyler Murray's 'Make or Break" year!

Of course McBride not gonna say anything negative about km. Bottom line though, this team will never have real success while km is under center

Good take. Unfortunately it feels like we are on year 3 or 4 with make or break year with Kyler. If we are going to make any real noise this year it will only be because Kyler made that step. Until he makes that leap we will be a 9 win team.
