The Northern Arizona Suns, the G League affiliate of the Phoenix Suns, added power forward Alec Peters to its training camp roster on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old Peters played in three games for the Suns this season. He scored three points in 11 minutes on opening night against the Portland Trailblazers.
The Suns drafted Peters with the 54th overall pick in the second round of last June’s draft. Peters played for four years at Valparaiso and wrapped up a productive year by winning Horizon League Player of the Year as a senior.
Peters finished his final collegiate season as the only Division I player to finish inside the top 20 nationally in both scoring and rebounding. Peters led the Horizon League with 23.0 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game.
Suns general manager Ryan McDonough believed Peters was one of the top shooters in the draft. But Josh Jackson, Marquese Chriss, Dragan Bender and Jared Dudley are ahead of Peters on the Suns’ depth chart.
Dudley just returned Monday night after missing the first three games due to offseason toe surgery.
