The Arizona Diamondbacks have exercised the team option on Daniel Descalso for the 2018 season.

The 31-year-old hit .233 with 10 home runs and 51 RBI in 131 games this past season. He played at a team-high six different positions: second base (45 games), left field (32 games), first base (19 games), third base (15 games), pitcher (two games) and shortstop (one game).

The veteran utility man played in all four postseason games for the D-backs, posting a .333 average with two home runs, three RBI and four walks.

Descalso signed a $1.5 million deal in February of 2017, with a 2018 club option on a salary of $2 million.

Entering his ninth year in the majors, Descalso spent the first five years of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals before two seasons in Colorado with the Rockies.
