Phoenix Suns get defensive

It sounds simple. “You definitely want to keep the
opposition’s score under yours.”

The execution is not. “This stuff is not easy. Scoring is
fun. Playing defense is hard.”

New Suns assistant Elston Turner is here to try to make it
a little easier with concepts proven to be successful over
his 14 years as an NBA assistant coach, not to mention
eight years as a player in which he had a reputation as
being a solid defender.

He joins the Suns after four years as the lead assistant
in Houston.

“Three years ago my defense was fourth in the league. The
year before that I was second in the league. In ’02-’03
(with Sacramento), I had the number one defense in the
league,” Turner said after a recent training camp practice
at Grand Canyon University.
