Marcin Gortat: ‘I would like to make another step forward’

Dec 19, 2011, 7:22 PM | Updated: 7:25 pm

In just over half a season in Phoenix, Marcin Gortat
surpassed a lot of what he had accomplished in a little
over three seasons with Orlando.

The list includes more points, more points per game, more
rebounds per game and more blocks per game. He also set
several Suns single-season marks with the number of
double-doubles recorded coming off the bench.

Now, about to enter his fifth NBA season, the man
nicknamed the “Polish Machine” expects even more out of
himself.

“I would like to make another step forward,” he said
during a break in the middle of the team’s training camp
at Grand Canyon University.

How big of a step forward?

“I don’t have a specific goal,” he answered. “I would
like to make playoffs with the team. That’s the most
important.”

It’s safe to say though if the Suns are to return to the
postseason after a year’s absence, then Gortat must play a
large role.

With his 6’11, 240-pound frame, he’ll anchor the middle of
the team’s defense and be the primary pick-and-roll
partner for Steve Nash.
