The Arizona Cardinals signed veteran safety Eddie Pleasant and released cornerback Deatrick Nichols on Monday, the team announced.
Pleasant adds depth to a team that could require insurance with safety Tre Boston having missed the Cardinals’ 45-10 loss to the Denver Broncos on Thursday due to rib and shoulder injuries.
The 29-year-old Pleasant spent the preseason with the New England Patriots but was released in August. Previously, he played in 2017 with the Houston Texans, where he recorded 32 tackles, 2.0 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception with three passes defensed.
Pleasant, in his seventh season out of Oregon, has 78 games played under his belt in six years, all with Houston.
He could challenge for playing time with Rudy Ford, who filled in for Boston in the Thursday loss.
Nichols, an undrafted rookie out of South Florida who has one tackle this year, had been promoted to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Thursday before Arizona hosted Denver upon the team’s release of receiver Kendall Wright.
