The Phoenix Mercury will recognize WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner with two meaningful initiatives this weekend.

In partnership with Phoenix Rescue Mission, the Mercury will host the fourth annual ‘BG’s Heart & Sole Shoe Drive’ on Saturday before they tip-off against the Dallas Wings.

The shoe drive, which will take place at 5 p.m. in the Casino Arizona Pavilion at Talking Stick Resort Arena, was created to help benefit the homeless throughout the valley.

Fans can bring gently used or news shoes before the game or mail them.

“The impact that we have been able to make in our community with the Heart & Sole Shoe Drive has been a humbling experience for me,” Griner said in a press release.

“Owning a pair of shoes to put on each day is something that I think a lot of people take for granted, and I’m excited to expand the program in collaboration with the Mercury and Phoenix Rescue Mission to continue helping those in need throughout the Valley.”

Since ‘BG’s Heart & Sole Shoe Drive’ began in 2016, Griner, the Mercury and Phoenix Rescue Mission have given away over 1,000 pairs of shoes.

Griner’s impact in the community spans further than helping the homeless.

She has received the WNBA Community Assist Award multiple times and is an advocate for the LGBTQ community.

As a salute to her commitment to the LGBTQ community, the first 2,500 fans in attendance to the game at home against Dallas will receive a free Brittney Griner bobblehead, featuring her and the LGBTQ pride flag.

The game will begin at 7 p.m.
