Tack up two more injuries for the Phoenix Suns. Two point guards will join a plethora of bigs unavailable against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday.
Point guards Ricky Rubio and Ty Jerome were ruled out Sunday, the Suns announced.
Rubio has an ankle injury and Jerome has left calf soreness.
The absence of the point guards will make it even tougher for the Suns to overcome Milwaukee, who is an NBA-leading 41-7 and coming off a loss to the Denver Nuggets.
Phoenix is now lacking point guard and big man depth. Aron Baynes (hip) and Frank Kaminsky (knee) remain out, and power forward Dario Saric will miss the game suffered an ankle injury Friday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Cam Johnson, who plays both forward positions, also remains injured with a right quad contusion
In Rubio’s starting place will be Elie Okobo, Mizell tweeted.
Okobo, a second-year point guard, has played 38 games this season and started two. He is averaging 4.3 points, two assists and 1.5 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game.
Guard Tyler Johnson will be available. He had been listed as probable on Saturday with right knee soreness.
Phoenix may call upon a rookie like Jalen Lecque or Jared Harper, both of whom were recalled from the G League Northern Arizona Suns on Saturday.
Tariq Owens, a 6-foot-10 power forward, was also recalled.
The Suns have lost both games Okobo started this season. Against the Houston Rockets in December, he scored 17 points to go with three assists and four rebounds in 30 minutes. Against the Atlanta Hawks in January, he didn’t score a single point in 22 minutes.
The game starts at noon. Listen live at 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
