Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported.

ESPN’s Shams Charania was first to report the injury, which occurred during an offseason workout.

“A timetable for his return to play will be established at a later date,” the Suns said in a statement.

Gambadoro added he expects recovery to take at least five months.

Williams, 24, has struggled with the injury bug throughout his four-year career.

Despite playing in a career-high 60 regular-season games during his first year in Phoenix this past season, a foot injury kept him out of the Suns’ first-round playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Williams entered restricted free agency at the end of the season, and Phoenix retained him with a three-year, $38 million contract.

The big man tandem of 2025 No. 10 overall pick Khaman Maluach and Oso Ighodaro will see an increase in minutes and responsibility during Williams’ absence.

Remind me, what did this stable genius owner of ours give up for this injured center that the Lakers rejected based on his medicals? And didn't he give up that valuable first rounder, which could have been used to draft Rasheer Fleming (who instead cost us a pair of 2nd rounders to move from 36 to 31 to get), while he was using the #10 overall pick on a center, who then didn't get valuable playing time as a rookie because of Williams?

This organization is a disaster. They are on the hook for 3 expensive and untradeable years of Mark Williams now!
