Cardinals QB Kyler Murray donates $25,000 to emergency meal fund

Apr 10, 2020, 7:37 AM

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray announced Thursday that he’s donated $25,000 to the GENYOUthNow COVID-19 emergency children’s meal fund.

The program provides schools with grants up to $3,000 that will go toward purchasing meal distribution and delivery resources amid the social distancing measures imposed during the coronavirus spread that’s shuttered the nation’s schools.

“Over 123,000 school closures are impacting 54.8 million students – including 30 million children who depend on the USDA’s school meal program,” the organization’s website says.

Donations to Murray’s cause can be made at https://www.genyouthnow.org/donate.

Murray’s individual charitable donation is the latest in the team’s efforts to make a difference.

Receiver DeAndre Hopkins, whom the Cardinals agreed to acquire in a trade with the Houston Texans, donated $150,000 to the state’s coronavirus relief fund. Linebacker Chandler Jones committed 150,000 meals to food banks in Arizona and New York.

As a team, the Cardinals pledged 1 million meals to be distributed to five Arizona food banks and have also donated $1 million to the state’s coronavirus relief fund.

The meals will be distributed to St. Mary’s Food Bank, St. Vincent DePaul, United Food Bank, Phoenix Rescue Mission and Midwest Food Bank.

The Arizona relief fund will help pay for personal protective equipment for medical personnel battling the COVID-19 virus; support non-profits that help vulnerable Arizonans through food banks, homeless shelters and domestic violence facilities; and help disadvantaged students pay for the technology necessary for them to transition to online learning through social distancing periods.

Additionally, the Cardinals have held multiple blood drives at State Farm Stadium.
