Sports book sets odds on new teams names for Redskins, Indians

The sports landscape is pretty light at the moment. But sports bettors can still get their fix, this time via the name change saga of the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians.

The Redskins announced they would launch a review of their own team name, which has been the subject of controversy for years but especially lately in the social conversation following the death of George Floyd. The Cleveland Indians said in a statement they would determine the “best path forward” with their name.

So what are the new names going to be?

Betonline.ag put odds on the new names for both clubs. For the Redskins, the betting favorite is the Redtails, a popular suggestion that is intended to honor the Tuskegee Airmen. The favorite for the Indians is the Spiders, the name of Cleveland’s baseball team in the 1800s.

Perhaps the 500/1 odds of the Redskins being renamed the “Trumps” or the “Snowflakes” is a longshot bet for a major troll job by owner Dan Snyder.
