Cardinals’ Hail Murray touchdown named Play of the Year at NFL Honors

Feb 7, 2021, 7:23 AM

We’ve all watched and rewatched with jaws hitting the floor the Week 10 “Hail Murray” play by the Arizona Cardinals that sealed a 32-30 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Now, it’s officially going down in the history books at the 2020 Bridgestone Clutch Performance Play of the Year, the NFL announced Saturday.

With 11 seconds left, Kyler Murray launched the football in the general vicinity of DeAndre Hopkins, who leaped and reached out his massive black gloves above a sea of Bills defenders for the clutch, game-sealing grab.

“I want to thank the Red Sea for sticking with us through a tough season, throughout the pandemic, COVID,” Murray said in a virtual acceptance speech.

“It’s a privilege to play for the Cardinals,” he added.

Murray finished that game with 245 yards passing, a touchdown and an interception while he also rushed for 61 yards and two more touchdowns. Hopkins had seven grabs for 127 yards and, of course, that touchdown.

“I want to say thank you Kyler for believing in me and throwing it to me with three people on me,” Hopkins said in the NFL Honors video.

“I want to thank Kliff for calling that play and trying to get me that ball, and I want to thank the city of Phoenix for supporting me and welcoming me with open arms, this being my first year.”

The miraculous 43-yard touchdown pass was the first go-ahead Hail Mary in the fourth quarter since Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw a 61-yard touchdown to TE Richard Rodgers in Green Bay’s 27-23 victory over Detroit in 2015.
