Coyotes sign Matthias Plachta to entry-level contract

The Arizona Coyotes announced Thursday that the team has signed 24-year-old German forward Matthias Plachta to a one-year entry-level contract.

“Matthias is a big, skilled winger who had a very good reason in the German League,” Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said in a team press release. “We look forward to him continuing his development in our organization.”

In 47 games with Adler Mannheim (Deutsche Eishockey Liga) last season, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Plachta tallied 14 goals and 21 assists, in addition to spending 73 minutes in the penalty box. In 15 postseason games, Plachta netted five goals and four assists to along with six penalty minutes.

Also, in seven games during the 2015 IIHF World Championship, Plachta scored two goals to help pace Germany to a fifth-place finish in Group A.
