The Arizona Diamondbacks placed pitcher Matt Peacock on the bereavement list on Monday.
Additionally, the team recalled Humberto Castellanos from the Triple-A Reno Aces.
The bereavement list is for players who have suffered a death or a serious illness in their family. Peacock could be back anywhere from three to seven games.
Since being promoted to starter on May 12, Peacock has gone 1-5 in seven starts. In 15 games this season, Peacock is sporting a 5.28 ERA to go along with a 1.511 WHIP.
The team’s starting rotation is quite thin due to Peacock’s absence and a handful of injuries to D-backs pitchers.
While Zac Gallen made his return from the injured list last week, the D-backs still have both Madison Bumgarner (shoulder inflammation) and Taylor Widener (groin strain) on the shelf.
Castellanos has a 3.24 ERA and a 1.080 WHIP in five games this season. He’s struck out eight, while walking four.
The D-backs will look to snap a 17-game losing streak Monday night against the Milwaukee Brewers. Arizona’s last win came on June 1.
