The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Friday they have claimed infielder Jake Hager off waivers from the Seattle Mariners, per a team release.
Hager was designated for assignment on July 27 by the Mariners after spending time with the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers organization this year.
He combined to hit .250 (52-for-208) with a .806 OPS, 16 doubles, 11 home runs and 29 RBI in 54 games with three different Triple-A clubs in 2021. He also made eight at-bats in the majors for the Mets and went 1-for-8 in five games.
Hager started off this year’s campaign hot, earning a call up to the Mets in May due to injuries.
The infielder plays a majority of his time at shortstop, but has expanded his defensive repertoire in the last year and has appeared at many different positions in the infield and outfield.
He has spent nine seasons in baseball after being selected 32nd overall in the 2011 MLB draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
