The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated starting pitcher Taylor Widener from the injured list, the team announced on Tuesday.
In a corresponding move, the team optioned reliever Sean Poppen to Triple-A Reno.
Widener started and went 5.0 innings with two hits and one earned run allowed in a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Phillies. He walked three and struck out five.
Widener was placed on the injured list last week after experiencing cold-like symptoms prior to his scheduled start against the San Diego Padres on Thursday.
In 10 starts this season (46 innings pitched) prior to Tuesday, Widener is 1-1 with a 4.89 ERA and 1.435 WHIP.
As for Poppen, he’s been up-and-down between Triple-A Reno and the major league club since the organization claimed him off waivers on Aug. 2.
He last pitched for the D-backs on Sunday, given up two earned runs in just 0.2 innings of work.
After taking the series win against the Padres, the Diamondbacks start a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Tune to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station at 6:40 p.m. for all the action.
