Rams in intensive COVID-19 protocols, Beckham Jr. reportedly positive

The Los Angeles Rams have shut down their facility Tuesday and are in the NFL’s intensive COVID-19 protocols less than 24 hours after beating the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football.

Receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who played in the game, has tested positive for the virus as of Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson. Six others, plus Beckham, were placed on the COVID-19 reserve as Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters that his team shuttered the team facility for Tuesday and Wednesday.

How the Rams’ coronavirus situation impacts the Cardinals remains to be seen. Arizona currently does not have any player in COVID-19 protocols.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the news from Los Angeles had not changed any procedures on Arizona’s end.

“We don’t have any reported cases as of today,” Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said. “We’re status quo.”

In Los Angeles, the Rams placed seven new players under COVID-19 protocols Monday after the game: Beckham Jr., defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day, defensive back Terrell Burgess, tight end Brycen Hopkins, defensive back JuJu Hughes, defensive end Jonah Williams and offensive lineman Alaric Jackson.

Burgess, Hughes and Hopkins saw playing time at Arizona on Monday.

Los Angeles entered the game at State Farm Stadium with a handful of players on COVID-19 reserve.

Hours before kickoff against the Cardinals on Monday, the Rams placed defensive back Jalen Ramsey and tight end Tyler Higbee on the COVID-19 reserve list. They joined running back Darrell Henderson Jr., offensive lineman Rob Havenstein and cornerback Dont’e Deayon on reserve.

Higbee was removed from the list and had a false positive.
