Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams was named Western Conference Coach of the Month for January on Wednesday.
Williams and the Suns posted a 13-1 record over the month of January. Phoenix was a perfect 8-0 on the road and 5-1 at home over that 14-game span.
Over the course of the month, the Suns strung together 10 straight wins for the second time this season. Only once did the Suns score under 100 points in January.
With the team’s win over the San Antonio Spurs to close out January, Williams and Phoenix’s coaching staff clinched a spot in the 2022 All-Star Game coaching Team LeBron.
It’s the first time Williams will coach an All-Star Game and marks the fifth time the Suns coaching staff have worked the contest.
This marks the fourth time Williams has taken home NBA Coach of the Month honors, winning as recently as October/November. He also won the honor last March and in 2011 when he was coaching the then-New Orleans Hornets.
At 41-9, the Suns sit alone at the top of the NBA standings with a three-game lead over the Golden State Warriors.
Cleveland Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff was named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month.
Bickerstaff’s Cavaliers went 11-4 in the month of January.
The Suns are back at it Thursday night against the Atlanta Hawks at 5:30 p.m. Tune to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station for all the action.
