Arizona State quarterback transfer Jayden Daniels has decided to land with the Louisiana State University Tigers, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Thamel in a tweet on Sunday added Daniels will be eligible for spring practice and should arrive in Baton Rouge within the next few weeks.

There was a potential Daniels may visit the campus and that LSU could be an option, Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro tweeted last week.

The former four-star quarterback announced on Dec. 2 via a social media post that he was returning to ASU for his senior season, but that was before the Sun Devils saw both of its coordinators resign amid the ongoing NCAA investigation into the program’s recruiting practices. On Feb. 17, Daniels entered the transfer portal.

Edwards since declined to discuss the timing of Daniels’ departure and whether it took the program by surprise.

“Well, I do know this: Anyone that decides to leave this program for whatever reason, they have the ability to do that now with the portal,” Edwards told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta on Feb. 22. “I’ve said this and I did this in pro football as well. When you have minicamp sometimes and the veterans don’t show up ’cause of the contracts or whatever, you don’t talk about the guys that aren’t here.”

Daniels suffered through a bumpy 2021 season. He completed 65% of his passes for 2,380 yards, but his 7.9 yards per attempt and 136.2 passing rating were the lowest of his three seasons at ASU.

The 6-foot-3 signal caller threw 10 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and relied heavily — often too much, Edwards has admitted — on his legs.

On the ground, Daniels has been dangerous for opponents.

He rushed for 710 yards on 138 carries, scoring six touchdowns to help Arizona State to an 8-5 record.

Sophomore Trenton Bourguet and Alabama transfer Paul Tyson emerge as suitors for the starting job this season in Tempe, along with incoming freshman Bennett Meredith and returnees Finn Collins and Daylin McLemore.

Daniels joins a quarterback depth chart for LSU made up of senior Myles Brennan, redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier and true freshman Walker Howard under new head coach Brian Kelly, according to 247 Sports.
