The Arizona Cardinals announced Friday the signings of defensive linemen Christian Ringo and Antwaun Woods while releasing defensive lineman Matt Dickerson and tight end David Wells in the process.
The Woods signing was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday.
Woods and Ringo were part of a trio that had workouts with the Cardinals on Thursday.
The 29-year-old Woods originally went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft and spent two seasons with the Tennessee Titans, mostly on their practice squad. He then got his breakthrough with the Dallas Cowboys in 2018, starting in 32 games over the next three seasons. Woods would go on to bounce between the Indianapolis Colts’ roster and practice squad in 2021 after signing with them in free agency. He played in seven games.
Across five NFL seasons, Woods has 88 total tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Ringo saw the best year of his career with the New Orleans Saints in 2021, recording a career-high 26 tackles and two tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery over 14 games.
He has also played one season each with the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers over his five year career.
The 30-year-old has totaled 41 tackles and 1.5 sacks since being drafted in the sixth round by the Packers from Louisiana.
The interior of the Cardinals’ defensive line is no longer manned by Corey Peters, who had previously played as a defensive tackle in Arizona for the last six seasons.
Rashard Lawrence and Leki Fotu, members of the 2020 NFL Draft class, are competing for snaps at that position. They are sandwiched by the likes of J.J. Watt and Zach Allen on the edges of the defensive line.
