Things might get hairy for Phoenix Coyotes fans
Are you looking for a way to support the Phoenix Coyotes and stick it to annoying Detroit Red Wings fans beyond just donning a white shirt for home playoff games? There is an option but it might get a little hairy.
It’s a tradition in the NHL, at least since the 1980s, to grow ‘playoff beards’. The Coyotes and Coyotes Charities are asking their fans to join in on the fun for a good cause. They’re hosting a “Beard-A-Thon” and are encouraging fans to grow their own playoff beards beginning Wednesday.
As part of the competition participants are asked to to invite family, friends and business associates to pledge money to their beard with all proceeds going to Coyotes Charities. The top five fundraisers will receive a prize, with the top money getter earning two glass seats to a home game next season. (We assume that only includes if games take place in Arizona and not elsewhere.)
Fans can join the competition at www.beardathon.com/coyotes.
Sorry ladies, the team and the ‘Beard-A-Thon’ website didn’t provide us with any answers as to what you can do unless you have the unique, yet useless, skill set of being able to grow facial hair. However, we are sure that you can raise money all the same on the site to benefit a the great causes Coyotes Charities helps.
The event is a lot of fun if you can stand the itchy skin and looking like a vagrant for at least a few weeks. If the Coyotes are lucky enough to break their first round jinx maybe the city will be littered with ZZ Top look-a-likes.
