Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder Jake McCarthy split the right-center field gap for a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the ninth inning Sunday against the Chicago White Sox.

The knock gave Arizona a 3-2 lead, and closer Ian Kennedy finished the game off in the bottom half to secure a three-game sweep in Chicago.

The D-backs (59-67) concluded their five-game road trip 4-1 and picked up their first interleague series sweep since 2019.

McCarthy continued his big stretch, as he entered Sunday’s game with a slash line of .396/.459/.528 since Aug. 9. He finished the series 5-for-9.

“It’ll be a happy flight,” McCarthy said. “It’s nice to go on the road and gain some momentum.”

Hits were hard to come by for the D-backs against White Sox (63-65) starter Dylan Cease.

The righty allowed two hits in eight frames, but both were solo home runs.

Rookie Stone Garrett hit his first MLB long ball in the second inning to give Arizona a 1-0 advantage.

“I haven’t checked my phone yet,” Garrett, who sent Cease’s slider out of the park, said. “I’m sure my friends are pretty hyped.”

Third baseman Sergio Alcantara tied the game 2-2 with his solo blast in the eighth.

Zach Davies took the hill for the D-backs and shut out Chicago for five frames before giving up a pair of runs in the sixth.

Gavin Sheets had a sacrifice fly and A.J. Pollock followed with an infield single that brought home Andrew Vaughn to give the White Sox a 2-1 lead in the sixth.

“That was unfortunate,” Davies, who was hoping for a longer outing, said. “But we battled back and won, and that’s all that matters.”

Arizona’s bullpen picked Davies up from there, as Noé Ramirez pitched a scoreless eighth and Kennedy got three outs for his ninth save.
