Jim Playfair has signed a multi-year contract to become the associate coach of the Phoenix Coyotes, General Manager Don Maloney announced.
“We are very pleased to welcome Jim to the Coyotes organization,” said Maloney. “Jim is a tremendous coach with a wealth of experience and I am confident that he will be a great addition to our coaching staff.”
Playfair spent the last 11 seasons in the Calgary Flames organization. He was the head coach in the 2006-07 season and was an associate coach from 2009-2011.
In his lone season as head coach, Playfair led the Flames to a 43-29-10 record.
“Jim is an excellent coach and we are thrilled to have him join our staff,” said Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett. “He has great communication skills and we are confident that he will be able to contribute in many areas.”
In addition to his coaching experience, Playfair also brings playing experience to the Coyotes as he played nine seasons of professional hockey and played in 21 games in the National Hockey League.
