Former NHL owner in line to buy Phoenix Coyotes

Can it be true?

The Phoenix Business Journal said that the former owner of the San Jose Sharks is ready to snap up the owner-less Phoenix Coyotes – and that a sales agreement could be worked out as soon as next week.

Coyotes fans, this is good, good news.

Greg Jamison, the interested buyer and former Sharks president and CEO, not only has NHL experience, but he also has worked with the Indiana Pacers and Dallas Mavericks in the NBA.

Read that again. The new potential owner has been apart of two very successful franchises who are regulars in the playoff scene. Sorry Indiana, that’s not you.

Oh, did I mention that, for the 15 years Jamison was at the helm of the Sharks, they reached the playoffs 13 times? And that he would keep the team in Arizona?

During his tenure in San Jose, Jamison also was head of the HP Pavilion, where the Sharks play.

If this rumor turns out to be true — and I hope it is — the Coyotes ownership saga will finally draw to a close with the best possible outcome for the team and the fans.

Jamison not only has experience in running a west coast hockey organization, but he has experience in running a great arena. While former bidder Matthew Hulsizer had the passion needed to run the Coyotes, Jamison could supply the know-how to operating a successful franchise and a great stadium at the same time, not to mention his playoff history.

The Jamison deal could be a match made in hockey heaven for the Coyotes. Hopefully he reaches a deal with the NHL before a certain group — or city for that matter — has a chance to screw it up.
