Ryne Nelson tossed seven scoreless frames for the Diamondbacks in his MLB debut against the San Diego Padres Monday afternoon, a 5-0 win for Arizona.

He outdueled 2018 Cy Young winner Blake Snell en route to the victory.

Nelson found a groove early, as the 24-year-old sat down 17 straight Padres hitters after surrendering a lead-off double to Jurickson Profar in the first.

He kept Profar on base after getting Juan Soto to pop out, Manny Machado to ground out and by striking out Josh Bell looking on a low fastball.

The rookie made quick work of San Diego’s lineup at only 55 pitches through five frames.

Nelson’s hitless streak ended with two outs in the sixth on another Profar double, although he stranded the runner, again.

The righty finished at 87 pitches through seven innings, 61 of which were strikes as he did not surrender a walk.

Nelson struck out seven batters, including Machado twice.

The rookie’s fastball looked especially sharp Monday, consistently hitting 96 and 97 mph on the radar gun in the early innings.

He touched 98 mph once, according to Baseball Savant.

The D-backs recalled Nelson Monday from Triple-A Reno to start his first major league game. The former Oregon Ducks hurler is the No. 8 prospect in Arizona’s organization, ranked by MLB Pipeline.

He was the second D-backs rookie to debut this season after Tommy Henry did so on Aug. 3.
