Arizona Wildcats quarterback Jayden de Laura was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for his team’s season opener, while Arizona State kicker Carter Brown took the conference’s special teams player of the week award.
De Laura went 22-of-35 for 299 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in the 38-20 victory against San Diego State on Saturday.
His four touchdowns thrown are the most in a Wildcat quarterback’s debut since Anu Solomon tossed for four scores against UNLV in 2014.
Three of de Laura’s touchdowns went to fellow transfer Jacob Cowing, who had 152 receiving yards on eight catches.
Teammate Jalen Harris won the Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week with an eight-tackle, one-sack performance.
Brown, a freshman, hit all four of his field goal attempts in a 40-3 win against Northern Arizona last Thursday.
He hit from 27 and 36 yards, with a pair of two 44-yard makes. Brown added four extra points.
Oregon State Beavers defensive back Jaydon Grant won Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week with a forced fumble, interception and two pass breakups. Teammate Brandon Kipper won the weekly honor for the conference’s best performance from an offensive lineman.
