Hunter Dickinson is confident. The Michigan Wolverines center became a consensus All-American his freshman season in 2020-21, and his numbers have only improved since then.

But still, he might want to cool it when he’s podcasting. Because entertainment doesn’t need to come in the form of hot takes, especially when you’re involved in the final outcomes of those opinions.

After the Wolverines on Wednesday rolled by 31 points past the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Legends Classic tournament, Dickinson on the Roundball Podcast was asked by his co-hosts to make a prediction about a Thursday meeting against the Arizona State Sun Devils.

“I’m trying to think,” he said, digging deep to make an accurate projection. “Is Arizona State as good as Pitt? Here, we win by 20.”

Dickinson also tried to pinpoint his own stats, landing on 18 points and nine rebounds.

To quote Luke Skywalker from Star Wars’ The Last Jedi: “Amazing. Every word of what you just said is wrong.”

The final score was Arizona State 87, No. 20 Michigan 62.

That’s only 47 points off his prediction!

Dickinson didn’t handle a one-on-one matchup against ASU 7-footer Warren Washington, nor the length and help defense from his teammates. The Michigan junior finished with 14 points and five rebounds, going 6-for-14 from the field and turning it over three times.

It’s the second year in a row he’s put out a dud against an Arizona school early in the season. Last year, Dickinson scored 11 points and struggled against the Arizona Wildcats in the fifth game of the season, an 80-62 loss.

The 25-point defeat against the Sun Devils on Thursday was also the largest loss by deficit since a 2014 game against, yep, those Wildcats.

Anyway, Dickinson’s next podcast will be interesting, to say the least.

His co-hosts appear unwilling to let him live this one down.
