Suns G Damion Lee at 85% after season-long injury, will be ready for camp

Jul 15, 2024, 10:23 AM

Phoenix Suns guard Damion Lee provided an update on his recovery from the right meniscus injury he suffered that kept him out all of last season.

Lee was interviewed by ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth while sitting courtside during the Suns’ first Summer League game on Saturday.

“Feeling good,” Lee said. “That’s the main focus that I tell everyone. Mentally, I’m in a better spot. Physically, I’m in a better spot.

“I’m about 85% and basically that’s just now transitioning into the contact, live action and all that kind of stuff. On the mend, on the way, and should be a full go for training camp, so that’s one thing that I’m really excited about.”

The Suns re-signed Lee to a one-year contract earlier this month.

Lee played 74 games (five starts) with the Suns during the 2022-23 season and averaged 8.2 points on 44.2% shooting and 44.5% from beyond the arc. He also averaged three rebounds and 1.3 assists across 20.4 minutes per game.

As an undrafted rookie out of Louisville in 2016, he began his NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks.

He appeared in 15 games (11 starts) for new Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer during the 2017-18 season with Atlanta.

He then signed two 10-day contracts before receiving a deal for the rest of the season. He averaged 10.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals in 26.9 minutes per game with Atlanta.

Lee then joined the Golden State Warriors on a two-way contract. He eventually signed a multi-year deal in 2020.

With the Warriors from 2018-22 (201 games played), Lee averaged 8.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 20.6 minutes per game in the regular season.

He was also won an NBA championship in 2022, averaging 2.0 points and 1.6 rebounds in 7.8 minutes per game across 16 playoff games for Golden State.
