TEMPE — Raleek Brown is back on the bench for Arizona State and won’t play against No. 16 Utah on Friday after he reaggravated a hamstring injury late in last week’s ASU win over Kansas.
Brown was seen without pads during practices ahead of the Sun Devils hosting Utah at Mountain America Stadium.
The USC transfer made his Arizona State debut in a Week 3 win over Texas State. He gained three yards across three touches as he was limited by the initial hamstring ailment sustained during fall camp.
Following the debut, head coach Kenny Dillingham said it’s a disservice to play Brown when he’s not fully healthy because of how much his game relies on his top-end speed. Because of this, Brown was inactive for the next game, a loss to Texas Tech.
He returned to the field last week and looked more like what the Sun Devils expected of the playmaker, carrying seven times for 41 yards (5.9 yards per carry) with two catches for four yards.
When leaving the field after his final run of the day, a nine-yard carry to begin ASU’s game-winning drive, Brown felt the reaggravation and threw down his helmet in frustration.
