The Sun Devils brought a load of pressure on the punt, and Hughes got his hand up in the way of the kick to help ASU tie the game at 7-7.
It was the first blocked punt that ASU returned for a touchdown since Nov. 11, 2017, when Eno Benjamin scored, per Sun Devil Athletics.
Saturday’s touchdown came after the ASU defense stopped UCF for a three-and-out on which it lost a yard.
The ASU defense bent enough to allow the Knights to score on their first drive, taking 7:15 off the clock as they marched 75 yards down the field and converted a key fourth down in the process.
When the Sun Devils tried to respond, it was their own fourth down attempt that stopped them in their tracks.
