TEMPE — After Arizona State football’s 35-31 win over UCF on Saturday, head coach Kenny Dillingham said “every company in the state” should rally behind quarterback Sam Leavitt as appreciation for a guy he called an NFL quarterback down the line.
“People should be throwing cars at him, they should be throwing condos at him, they should be throwing whatever they can throw at him to be excited about the fact that you have an NFL-level player in your state, in the flagship school … for three more years,” Dillingham said. “People should be fired up about the opportunity to build around that.”
Leavitt completed eight of his final 10 pass attempts before a clock-killing throwaway late, and ASU’s final two scoring drives ended with touchdown passes to Jordyn Tyson.

It was the fifth time ASU (7-2, 4-2) has come out on top in a one-score game.
Leavitt and Tyson have been a common denominator late in games, which was especially key on Saturday with star running back Cam Skattebo out of the lineup.
“Sam’s just a dog, man. He’s a proven winner,” Tyson said of the quarterback’s clutch gene. “Whenever the game’s on the line, whenever we need a play, whenever we need a drive, bro, put it on Sam’s shoulders. He’s gonna get it done.”
“It’s an unbelievable connection right now,” Dillingham added. “Those guys, JT has two more years, Sam has three more years. I mean that could be an exciting combo here for the future of Sun Devil football.”
In total, Leavitt finished with 161 passing yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers. He also rushed for two of the Sun Devils’ six third-down conversions with both coming in the fourth quarter.
“I’m just glad he’s here,” Dillingham said. “Makes me look good.”
The Sun Devils will play at No. 22 Kansas State on Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. MST. The Wildcats were idle this week after a loss at Houston last week.
