Hackers strike: NFL Twitter account taken over
Jun 7, 2016, 10:30 AM
The NFL social media team has had better days.
Tuesday morning the National Football League’s official Twitter account sent a tweet that commissioner Roger Goodell had died.
Moments later, the NFL’s Brian McCarthy let people know the account had been hacked and that Goodell indeed is doing just fine.
The @nfl Twitter account was hacked. @nflcommish is alive and well.

But the random Tweets from the account weren’t finished. The tweets below have since been deleted, but we grabbed them with a screenshot before they were erased.
Someone from the NFL finally changed the password and regained control of the account but it was too late. The tweets were already out there and the Twitterverse was running away with it faster than whoever runs the account could click “change password.”
Here are some of the best tweets we found:
Laremy Tunsil needs to tell the @NFL Twitter to change its password. 👀

It would take a real evil genius to hack the NFL’s Twitter account and play a joke on Roger Goodell pic.twitter.com/7cf3EipRrF

Who was behind it? We’re not pointing fingers — cough, the Patriots, cough — but there are a few accounts taking credit.
They, of course, were quickly suspended by Twitter.
Back to work everyone.
