ASU bringing Sparky helmets to Sun Bowl for 1st time since 2004 matchup

Arizona State will bring its traditional Sparky helmet to the Sun Bowl on Wednesday after wearing pitchfork helmets the previous three times it's been in the El Paso setting.

Arizona State will bring its traditional Sparky helmet to the Sun Bowl on Wednesday after wearing pitchfork helmets the previous three times it’s been in the El Paso setting.

The Sun Devils are going with gold helmets, white jerseys and gold pants.

ASU’s three most recent Sun Bowl appearances (2019, 2017, 2014) all featured pitchfork helmets.

The last time it wore a Sparky helmet in the El Paso bowl game was in 2004, when ASU beat Purdue 27-23.

It’s also the fourth time in the last five games Sparky has been the feature logo on ASU’s helmets. The only exception being Salute to Service week with the PT-42 logo in honor of Pat Tillman.

Duke’s uniforms counter with a direct contrast of white helmets, blue jerseys and white pants.

The matchup will kick off on Wednesday at noon MST from El Paso. Hear it on ESPN 620 AM, 98.7 FM HD-2 or the Arizona Sports app, or watch it on CBS (streaming on Paramount+).

Glad they're not going with the Maserati trident. No matter what they wear, they've got to beat Duke, as they can't end the season with back to back losses to two "basketball schools". Then again, State is a women's volleyball, wrestling, golf, hockey school, so I guess it doesn't matter . . . Frosted Flakes for every-one!
