4-time All-Star Kahleah Copper re-signs with Phoenix Mercury

Kahleah Copper has re-signed with the Phoenix Mercury, the team announced on Sunday.

The four-time WNBA All-Star and 2021 WNBA Finals MVP returns for her third season in the Valley. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Copper missed the beginning of last season due to a left knee arthroscopy, which saw her miss the first month of the season. After she returned, she helped lead the Mercury to the WNBA Finals and averaged 15.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 28 games. 

Copper came to Phoenix in February 2024 after the Chicago Sky dealt her for Brianna Turner and Michaela Onyenwere and four draft picks, including the No. 3 overall pick in 2024 (which became Kamilla Cardoso). Phoenix also acquired Morgan Bertsch in the trade.

Earlier on Sunday, the Mercury officially announced the signing of Alyssa Thomas. The Mercury further signed Ashten Prechtel, Aisha Sheppard, Kianna Williams, Lauren Jensen, Morgan Maly and Kyara Linskens to training camp deals, Quionche Carter to a rookie-scale contract and Valeriane Ayayi to a deal on Sunday.

Training camp contracts do not count towards the salary cap unless the player makes the opening night roster.

Training camp begins on April 19, and the Mercury open the preseason on April 25 vs. the Sky. Phoenix will begin the regular season on May 9 with a WNBA Finals rematch at the Las Vegas Aces.
