It's no secret that the Arizona Cardinals are thin at the running back position.

Beanie Wells is on the shelf with a turf toe injury until at least Thanksgiving, and Ryan Williams is out for the year after suffering a shoulder injury in last Thursday's loss to the St. Louis Rams.

That leaves LaRod Stephens-Howling, who has spent most of his career as a third down back, and the unproven William Powell and Alfonso Smith as options for head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Nobody would blame Arizona brass for going out and searching for running backs either through trade or free agent signings at this point. And while some interesting names have surfaced this week, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is offering up the most interesting name of all -- Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans.

Johnson became only the sixth player in league history to eclipse the 2,000-yard barrier in a single season when he ran for 2,006 in 2009. But since then, his output has waned. The three-time Pro Bowler ran for 1,364 in 2010 and just 1,047 last season.

In four games this season, Johnson has run for just 210 yards on 73 carries. The fifth-year pro out of East Carolina is on pace for just 672 yards this year.

    Not going to happen
His contract is ridiculous, and what makes anyone think he can run behind our garbage o-line? Tennessee has a slightly better line and he can't do anything.

    I agree, won't happen
Beanie is coming back in 5-6 games, so the dire need is only that long - why would they give up a mid-round draft pick to do that for a player that isn't performing any better than the RBs he's replacing? Won't happen.

Possibly Chris Ivory from the Saints as Gambo mentioned. I thought when Beanie was looking iffy that Ryan Grant was still available & then 2 days later the Skins sign him only for him to ride the pine.

    Ok first of all
BrewCrewAZ our o-line is really not bad its just a learning curve for the rookies right know. I just don't understand who we will trade to get Johnson thats my biggest concern.

I think you are mistaken - our O-Line is that bad. Theres only one rookie on it. Batiste has been around. If we wanted CJ2K, we would trade a draft pick - likely a third or higher, which I really dont think is worth it. I agree its not likely that he will be able to get anything behind our line. I also dont think its in our coaching staffs nature to go out and get a player. The only reason they got Kolb was to keep Fitz happy. They were perfectly content signing Derek Anderson the year before and putting the keys in his hands.

We must not be watching the same team. Massie is the only rookie and the interior guys are a major problem. Snyder is conistently pushed around. Sendlein and Colledge are average at best. We were able to mask these problems for the most part for the first three games with quick releases and additional blocking tight ends. Don't worry who we are trading to get Johnson. It's not happening and it's not in the Cards track record to do so.

Let's see what LSH and Powell can do
If they trade for anyone it better be an OT.

We need a bruiser to knock over our linemen and the D linemen. Thinking a larger Michael Bush.

Theres only 1 RB that could run behind
This O Line... 1.) Beanie Wells. Idk how he did it but he did... Unfortunately, his production declined this year and hes always injured. Williams got a few runs here and there but nothing special. Powell ran well against 2nd and 3rd stringers. A trade isnt gna work unless you trade for 2 OT's (1 at the very least). But they know better than to trade for a big name RB because the O Line cant run block. They have it right... Just sit tight until they rebuild the line through the draft. Im assuming they will spend all their draft picks on offensive linemen.

    What a Joke!
If Mike Florio gets paid to make up trade scenarios and play fantasy football for other GM's then he is doing his job well. Why would this ever happen? Just because the Cardinals are desperate for a RB doesn't mean this is the way to go. Keep up the good work fantasizing Florio.
