The Phoenix Suns have assigned rookie point guard Elie Okobo to the G League for the second time this season.
The Suns want Okobo to get playing time in two games for the NAZ Suns before bringing him back to the roster, per 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro. NAZ plays on Tuesday night and Thursday night. The Phoenix Suns play on those same days then return to play on Saturday.
After Okobo scored 19 points off the bench against the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 28 and Devin Booker re-aggravated his hamstring on Dec. 2, he started two games and shot 8-of-21 from the field with two total assists.
In the team’s last two games, rookie De’Anthony Melton started over Okobo and has impressed. Melton has averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, six assists and 1.5 steals per game.
The Suns also signed point guard Jawun Evans to a two-way contract on Friday and Evans is with the Suns in San Antonio. With Jamal Crawford questionable, Evans could make his debut for the Suns.
This season, Okobo is shooting 37.9 percent from the field and averaging 6.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
