Arizona Cardinals’ Drew Stanton may be out for rest of year due to infection

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton had to have an arthroscopic procedure to combat an infection and may be done for the year.

Arizona head coach Bruce Arians had previously stated there was an 85 percent chance Stanton would be ready for the Cardinals’ playoff opener.

He said Friday that he has “no idea” about the infection and Stanton is “on schedule for next week.”

Arians added Stanton will stay home over the weekend, continue rehabbing and hopefully be ready to go for the playoffs.

“That’s what we’ve been hoping for all along,” he said.

The eight-year veteran was injured in a 12-6 win over the St. Louis Rams in Week 15 and was replaced by Ryan Lindley.
