Larry Fitzgerald developing chemistry with Kevin Kolb

Larry Fitzgerald and Kurt Warner did not become “Larry and Kurt” until the veteran QB’s third year with Cardinals.

Both had been successful before the 2007 season, but it wasn’t until Warner became the full-time starter that the duo really took off, as Fitz scored all 10 of his touchdowns that season — and many more in the years that followed — off passes from No. 13.

A similar scenario could play out now with Fitzgerald and new QB Kevin Kolb, but the wideout admitted it will take time.

“You want to have that good continuity between the quarterback and receiver, that takes time, takes repetition,” Fitzgerald told Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf Tuesday. “It takes a while to have that good repoire and I think the more we throw every single day the more comfortable he’ll become with me, the more comfortable I’ll become with him.”

Fitzgerald praised Kolb’s decisiveness in the pocket, saying the QB gets rid of the ball quick. That means he, along with all the other receivers, will have more chances to make plays.

“Which is something that any receiver would be licking their chops for,” he said.

Suffice to say Fitzgerald is happy with his new QB, which, while important, is not the reason he elected to re-sign with the Cardinals, as he said he never wanted to leave.

“Signing Kevin, I knew that the organization was doing everything it could to make us be in contention again and make a playoff push like we did two years ago with Kurt, and I know with the signings of Stewart Bradley and [Daryn Colledge] and guys like that, the team is really making that conscious effort to make sure we are fighting and scratching for the NFC West championship, and I think we have a great opportunity to win it.”

If the Cardinals are to win the division and return to the playoffs they will likely do so because Kolb and Fitz, while maybe not on par with what the Cardinls had two years ago, are among the league’s better QB/WR combos.

As Fitzgerald said, though, that could take some time, and Cardinals fans may need to show a little patience over the next few weeks.

The results may be worth it.
