Bucks’ Brogdon asks team to donate money for ROY campaign to charity

Teams often use expensive campaigns in order to drum up public support for their players in award races.
However, Milwaukee Bucks rookie guard Malcolm Brogdon thinks the money for this campaign would be better used elsewhere.
That’s why he asked the Bucks to give the money they would have used on a campaign promoting Brogdon for the Kia NBA Rookie of the Year to charity instead, which the team announced in a press release Friday.

The Bucks drafted the senior out of the University of Virginia with the 36th pick in last year’s NBA Draft.
Brogdon is currently averaging 10.3 points on 45.7 percent shooting while dishing out 4.3 assists and collecting 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game for Milwaukee. He has split time at both guard spots, starting 26 games for the Bucks.
He has missed the past four games with back soreness and is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The 24-year-old currently trails only 76ers power forward Dario Saric in NBA.com’s Rookie Ladder. He is also competing with 76ers center Joel Embiid, who was the clear favorite before going down with a meniscus tear after 31 games.
The winner of the award will be announced at the first-ever NBA Awards Show on June 26 in New York City.
