David Johnson meets with the media on Monday, Jan. 2.

The third day of the NFL Draft is generally not viewed with as much fanfare as the first two, which is understandable since it features picks from rounds four through seven.

But this year, seeing the announcements on Saturday morning may very well be worth it.

The Cardinals announced on Tuesday that four of their Day 3 picks will be made from the Grand Canyon, with various people doing the honors.

In the fourth round, Cardinals running back David Johnson will be joined by Cardinals cheerleaders and team mascot Big Red, as well as Kristen Glasser and her son, who are the wife and son of David Glasser, in making pick No. 120 overall.

David Glasser, you may recall, was a Phoenix Police Offer and big-time Cardinals fan who died on May 19, 2016, from a gunshot wound sustained the day before when responding to a burglary.

The team’s fifth and sixth-round choices will be announced by representatives from the Arizona National Guard and National Park Service, along with kids and coaches from the NFL Flag Football organization Flagstaff Primetime Athletics.

Finally, the team’s seventh-round pick — No. 231 overall — will be announced by Chrisie Elser, who is a Cardinals season ticket holder.

The Cardinals are joining every other team in the NFL in having Day 3 picks made from special locations while recognizing people who have made some kind of significant impact.
