Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker attends several Phoenix Mercury games every season.

Now he wants to give Arizona State students an opportunity to take in the Mercury.

The 20-year-old NBA superstar — who would be a senior in college if not for coming to the NBA after a year at Kentucky — bought 270 tickets for the Mercury’s round one, single-elimination playoff game against the Seattle Storm at ASU’s Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe.

The game will take place Wednesday, Sept. 6 with tip off scheduled for 7 p.m. Starting at 4 p.m. on game day, students with a valid college ID can claim their tickets on a first-come first-serve basis on the north side of the arena.

Since being drafted by the Suns in 2015, Booker has been one of the Mercury’s biggest cheerleaders. The second-year player out of Kentucky, who scored a franchise single-game record 70 points against the Boston Celtics last March, participated in a Mercury TV advertisement promoting the team and the league. In addition, he participated in the NBA’s “Lean In” campaign.

The playoff game is taking place in Tempe due to a concert while Talking Stick Resort Arena, home of the Suns and Merucry, is being used for another event.

The Mercury’s 88-66 victory over the Connecticut Sun in Phoenix last Friday clinched a home game in round one of the WNBA playoffs. After a season-ending 70-64 home loss to the Atlanta Dream, the Mercury (18-16) finished with the fifth-best record in the Western Conference.
