As a two-time NBA MVP and seven-time All-Star, Steve Nash has received plenty of accolades on the court and now he has a few off the court as well.

Street Soccer USA, a national organization that teaches job and life skills to homeless,
awarded Steve Nash the Sport for Social Change Award.

“Sports has power and sports also shows people that they have the power to make a difference,” Nash said. “It’s an honor to receive this award, especially since Street Soccer USA puts two of my passions , soccer and helping people, together.”

Prior to the award ceremony, Nash participated in an eight versus eight soccer match against members and graduates of Street Soccer USA.

The Sport for Social Change Awards honor those who use sport as a medium to promote a social good.

“Steve both personally and through his foundation sets the gold standard in term of athletes using sport to drive outcomes for a better world, which is why we are so pleased to recognize him,” Lawrence Cann, founder of Street Soccer USA and creator of the Sport for Social Change Awards said.

Nash may be the most prominent and recognizable name to win the award, but previous winners include NFL Sr. VP of player engagement, Troy Vincent, Washington Mystics president Sheila Johnson, as well as businessman Ted Leonsis.
