D-backs to celebrate moon landing anniversary with bobbleheads

With the 50th anniversary of the moon landing upcoming Saturday, the Arizona Diamondbacks are celebrating appropriately.

For the first 20,000 fans that arrive at Saturday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers, a bobblehead featuring shortstop Nick Ahmed in an astronaut suit will be available for free.

In addition to the celebration, Dr. Justin Hagerty from the USGS Astrogeology Science Center in Flagstaff will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Hagerty is known for his lunar research and analysis of space rocks collected by astronauts, which helps create models to show how the moon was formed. Hagerty received a medal from President Obama for his work.

Along with his bobblehead, Ahmed, in addition to Archie Bradley and Adam Jones, will be wearing cleats during batting practice that celebrate the anniversary as well.

A version of the artwork “The Great Moment” will be on display at Chase Field as well for fans to take their photo in front of it.

Saturday is also part of kids free weekend, where fans with children under the age of 15 can receive two free tickets with the purchase of an adult ticket to any game during the Brewers series.
