Iowa State student Carson King saw an opportunity to raise money to get essential college supplies—a case of beer.

When ESPN’s College Game Day rolled into town for the Saturday’s Iowa and Iowa State game, King made a sign asking viewers to Venmo him money for a case of Busch Light.

His campaign soon took off and he gathered more cash than he was anticipating.

After his total surpassed a few hundred dollars, he decided there was better things he could do with the money instead of spend it on beer.

King spoke with his family and they decided to donate the money, aside from a case of beer’s worth, the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

The children’s hospital is across the street from where the Hawkeyes play.

On game days, patients and their families at the children’s hospital gather in the Press Box, the 12th floor of the hospital, to watch the college football games. After the first quarter, it’s tradition for the fans to turn and wave to the kids.

The Busch Beer Twitter account noticed King’s fundraiser, and they said they’ll match his donation to the hospital.

Later on, Venmo said they would also match King’s donation.

Additionally, King will receive a year’s supply of beer, courtesy of Anheuser-Busch.

According to King’s Twitter account Wednesday afternoon, they’d raised over $43,000. The fundraiser will continue through the end of the month.
